Interestingly, even though the Triceratops is one of the easier animals to tame in this open-world survival game, it’s still an effective companion to have on the player’s side. It’s an incredibly useful animal, so knowing how to tame one is key.
3 What The Triceratops Can Do
The Triceratops has five main strengths, namely, its ability to be ridden, its high carry capacity, its gathering skills, its damage output, and the ability to be an impressive tank when needed. Each strength makes it a particularly useful companion to tame and will hold its own for the beginning of the game. Although it’s definitely not the strongest dinosaur in this open-world survival game, it can aid most players and is well worth attempting to tame.
Rideable
Firstly, the ability to ride the Triceratops not only looks awesome but allows the player to get where they want with a rather impressive speed, especially with its charge attack, which should be used when players are wanting to get somewhere quickly. It’s got a relatively short recharge and can be effective in both combat and travel, or it can be used to take down trees if the player needs some more Thatch.
Carry Capacity
The carry capacity is also useful for longer journeys or if players want to explore. This allows them to take more items with them or bring more elements back after a long adventure. After all, nothing is worse than having to leave valuable resources behind.
Gathering
With the ability to ride the Triceratops and let it carry so much on its back, it can often be tempting to bring it anywhere the player needs to go.

However, simply set this companion to gather items and it should bring back a vast amount of berries. In fact, it’s one of the top five creatures in Ark: Survival Evolved when it comes to collecting this resource.
Fighting
With speed and a variety of charge attacks that inflict stuns, this creature is ideal for anyone looking for a fight. Any dinosaurs that choose to attack the base will be met by a huge beast with an armored hide and a vicious attack. This is a fantastic beginner dinosaur to use as a protector or as an attacker.
2 How To Tame The Triceratops
To tame the Triceratops players will need to knock out a wild mount. They can use any ranged weapon that is fitted out with tranquilizer arrows, or a tranquilizer tip. This will knock the dinosaur out without killing it.

Once knocked out, players are safe to approach and will be able to access what looks like the creatures’ inventory. Simply insert food into the inventory until the tame level increases. Different foods will provide different levels of effectiveness and it’s recommended to wait until the food is fully consumed before adding in another one. This will shorten the amount of time it takes to make the Triceratops a pet.
After the player has successfully tamed this creature they can put a Trike Saddle on its back to ride away back to their base.
In order, players will need to:
Knock the creature out with a tranquilizer Access the creatures’ inventory Insert food until it is tamed, adding more tranquilizer if needed Craft a Trike Saddle and place it on the newly tamed Triceratops
1 The Best Food
While the Triceratops will typically accept any foods, from crops to berries to kibble, certain items will make taming this creature more efficient and much easier.

Firstly, while crops and berries are the easiest items to gather, they take a long time to tame the Triceratops. It’s worth having them in the player’s inventory if they run out of anything else, but they’re not the most efficient. Nevertheless, if any berries are collected, look for the Mejoberry as that’s one of the better items to feed this creature. Players will probably need around 213 since it’s a large animal.
However, if players can get hold of some Kibble, then this will speed the process up by an incredible amount. Such an item takes well over half of the time it would take with any other item. Kibble can be crafted using a cooking pot and these ingredients:
One small egg Five Mejoberries Two Rockarrots One Cooked Fish Meat
It’s worth noting that the correct Kibble to use on the Triceratops is the Simple Kibble or Carnotaurus Kibble, any other version of this time will affect taming the creature negatively, so it’s vital to research when looking to tame any other dinosaur Ark: Survival Evolved has to offer.
