The Parasaur is a little more useful and can certainly enable players to practice taming while still having a companion that can aid them throughout Ark: Survival Evolved. While taming this dinosaur may be classed as easy, it still requires a certain amount of skill, understanding, and the right tools. Without these many players will find themselves chasing this speedy creature through the map.
What The Parasaur Can Do
While it’s worth remembering that the Parasaur is primarily a beginner’s companion, it can hold its own on the lands of this survival game and will undoubtedly prove a boon to anyone choosing to tame it. It’s versatile, strong, and can be particularly useful around a player’s base.
Gathering
Gathering berries is something that can either be easy or frustratingly difficult depending on the layout of the map. Nevertheless, it’s often one of those elements of the game that many players would rather not do.
This is where the Parasaur comes in. It’s an efficient berry gatherer for the beginning of the game, often gathering much more than the player would be able to get in a much shorter time. This allows the player to stock up on narcoberries or other useful ingredients without needing to leave their base.
Protection
Being a dinosaur with the capability to fight back, this companion can be a useful element of either distraction, protection, or observation. The Parasaur has a keen eye for players or hostile creatures sneaking towards the base which allows for the owner to go about their business while essentially having an alarm system that both makes noises and visually moves to alert the player of any dangers.
Travel
The Parasaur is one of the most useful beginner dinosaurs to tame, primarily due to the fact players can mount it. This provides a useful element of travel and allows players to travel to places they may have never seen. It’s also relatively quick both on land and in the water which aids both escapes and chases throughout the map.
Ultimately, for the early elements of the game, the Parasaur is a jack of all trades and will greatly benefit anyone looking to tame a new and adorable creature in this survival game.
How To Tame The Parasaur
While the Parasaur may be one of the beginner dinosaurs, it’s still not an easy creature to tame. This is primarily due to its speed and tendency to run away before players get the chance to knock it out. Luckily, there are a few techniques that will allow anyone a better chance to capture and tame the Parasaur.
Firstly, the player can essentially pen the Parasaur into a trapped location. This involves leading it into a corner of rocks or other structures. Once the creature is trapped, the real taming can begin. With the trapped creature susceptible to taming, the player needs to begin to try and knock it out. This can be done with fists, or any other melee weapon but be careful to not do too much damage to it or it will die. It’s best to punch a dinosaur of this level.
After it’s knocked out, stop hitting it and open up its inventory. The player should then be able to feed it certain foods which will increase its tamed level. Once that is filled the player will have a tamed Parasaur. Then simply open up the now more recognizable inventory and place a saddle on its back, then ride off back to base.
In steps, this is how to tame the Parasaur:
Trap The Parasaur Knock it out by punching Feed it food until it’s tamed Put a saddle on through its inventory
The Best Food
Taming a creature can be a tricky situation, but it can be made a little easier through the use of the right food. When taming a dinosaur, the player will typically benefit from using Kibble. It’s the most effective type of food to use in this process and is still the case for the Parasaur. The player will need around eight Basic Kibble. When using this food it will typically take just under seven minutes to tame the creature and has extremely high effectiveness.
If Basic Kibble isn’t readily available then players will be better off looking for or growing crops. With around 80 crops to feed this dinosaur, most should be able to tame it in around 32 minutes. It’s quite a jump but may be easier for some players. Lastly, if crops aren’t easily obtainable then hunt around for around 107 Mejoberries. It takes around the same time as the crops but has lower effectiveness meaning there is more of a chance to fail the taming process.
